It crystallizes in the form of masses, pyramid like micro points, and hexagonal crystals and it can range in colour from dark red, purple, violet or even pink, all depending on the amount of chromium impurities within the stone. First discovered in 1841 by Nils Gustaf Nordenskild, a Finnish mineralogist who chose to name it after August Alexander Kmmerer.
